Last week’s poll was really a tough call for me. It is so difficult to not let the emotions and disgust get in the way of the actualization of the law, and even that is highly debatable. Here were the final results:
Do you think that people should be allowed to picket and protest @ funerals?
No, free speech is great but not at a funeral (81%, 17 Votes)
Yes, I believe in free speech at all times (19%, 4 Votes)
Total Voters: 21
This week’s poll is kind of a no brainer for me. I don’t want to give my ideas away on the whole thing yet, and many of you , I am sure, can already guess how I feel. Next week, I will share my thoughts, I know, you just can’t wait, right?
I am thankful for…
My bread machine. My mom gave this to me several years ago and it’s still ticking away. While I have discovered that bread actually taste better if it’s not cooked in the machine (thanks, Chichimama!), I still use it to do all the mixing. I have not bought one loaf of bread or bagels in months now. My family and I are loving it!
Last week’s poll brought on an opportunity for me to talk with a few of you about your religious practices. I have to say that I was surprised at how many of you deal with the same type of issues as myself. Not that I thought I was special or anything…
But in my mind I always kind of believed that similar religious beliefs were important in a marriage. I knew that this wasn’t always the case, but I thought more times than not it was. Apparently, I was wrong. Not the first time, but maybe the second
Even though hubby and I have different takes on spirituality, we do have a similar belief and that is one of respect. We try and be respectful to people regardless of their beliefs and whether we agree with them or not. I think this is what gets me about these people from Westboro Baptist Church.
I understand they are on a mission and believe that need to save the world and have people repent. Cool. I get it. I am not sure I agree with all this, but to each his own. What really makes me spitfire angry at these people is there direct lack of respect and compassion.
Have you read about this? These people are picketing, calling out rude slurs, and causing pain at solidiers funerals. I will come right out and say that I can not agree with this church’s approach. I think it is disgusting. Apparently, they haven’t heard the saying “you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.” Do these people seriously think their approach is converting anyone?
Whether you agree with this church’s message or approach is NOT what this week’s poll is about though. I would like to guess that most people would agree that showing compassion at a funeral is always a better approach. What I am wondering is whether or not you believe our constitution should protect this church in their freedom of speech.
So, please go vote and if you like, let’s dialog! Leave a comment about what YOU think about all of this.
I am thankful for…
The fact that I do live in a free and somewhat safe country. While I don’t agree with everything that is happening here or believe that we are 100% safe, I do feel blessed to live in a place where I do have so much freedom. Things could be so much worse!
