As I have mentioned before, I am a couponer. Using coupons means that I need to get at least one Sunday newspaper every week. In the beginning of my excursion into the coupon world, I would buy a paper from one of the newsies hocking them at the corner. I liked the idea of supporting the homeless people that sell them.

Then it became a hassle. Unfortunately, I wasn’t always able to get to the corner in time to buy one from them. Sometimes they would be mysteriously gone and it became evident that this method wasn’t so reliable.

I debated signing up for service delivery directly through the paper, but lingering memories of constant sales calls and bill payment confusion squashed that idea.

Then I stumbled across the site Discounted Newspapers and found not only the cost to me quite remarkable, but the service has been outstanding. I pay my bill for the year, so no confusion and I have yet to receive one sales call. I have always received my paper and in a timely manner.

I highly recommend this service to anyone who wants a reliable, frugal paper subscription.

I have always been fairly obsessed with my face cleansing ritual. That is definitely one thing my mom instilled in me. My husband loves to make fun of my nightly routine and how long it takes me to get ready for bed.

I have been on a small quest to try and find workable recipes to make my own face cleaners. I want to take care of my skin. I’d like to do so in a way that’s affordable, green and safe as possible. So far I have found two recipes I like- an eye make remover and a toner.

Eye Makeup Remover

• recycled travel size shampoo bottle (or anything similar)
• 1 tablespoon of olive oil
• 1 tablespoon of castor oil
• 2 tablespoons of vege oil

Mix and use cotton ball to gently dab on lashes.

Astringent

• Use a recycled astringent bottle
• half a bottle of purified water
• half a bottle of witch hazel
• 3 tablespoons of lemon juice (optional)

Mix ingredients together. If using the lemon juice, store astringent in the refrigerator. The lemon adds an extra cleansing ingredient and makes the toner more refreshing (great for summer weather).

The other thing I have come up with to reduce the amount of paper I am consuming is create my own form of cotton pads. While these do NOT work well with any type of oil, such as the eye makeup remover, they are wonderful and SOFT for the astringent.

I used leftover soft flannel material from the baby bag I made. I cut 4 squares and simply sewed around the edge to hold them together. I have been using them since February, they wash up great and are still in wonderful condition.

Just making these small changes in my routine has saved me a lot of money and I feel better about the amount of trash I am producing.

In the past week, I have noticed several posts about the new Revolution Money Exchange. You may have read some, you may have signed up. If not, I would encourage you to take signing up into serious consideration and quickly!

Which brings me to my next point. Paypal. Paypal is the exact reason why I signed up with RME. Many of you may remember the problems I had with Paypal. I am so happy that there is another alternative and hope that RME is of better quality than the latter. My next wish is that it spreads like wildfire so that RME becomes as widely accepted.

I was excited about Google Checkout as an alternative but it hasn’t seemed to catch on like I had hoped. Maybe between Google and RME I will be able to go about as freely paying for things, like I once did when I used Paypal.
