Not sure if any of you realized it or not, but I haven’t been posting as much about going green as I once did. It’s not because I have stopped my quest to reduce, reuse and recycle, because I am still going strong.
Actually, why I have stopped (and not so happily- I feel like I am not in my right element), is because going green seems to be the new fad. On one hand - Yay! I am so happy that we all are making strides to do our part.
On the other hand, ugh! I think it’s a fad. We all know what happens to fads. They fade.
It also bothers me that it seems like more blogs than not, are posting their tips on going green. Change lightbulbs, clean green, etc. Then 2 days later I see them post their CVS purchases which contradict everything they posted about going green. It makes me wonder if they actually believe what they posted.
Now by no means am I in anyway perfect in my attempts to be more eco-friendly. I can say that I do try and practice all that I preach. Yes, I slip up every so often- usually when I haven’t planned properly. I do, however; honestly try and keep my tenant of reducing, reusing and recycling all as often as I can.
I applaud all efforts of anyone who is trying to do their part and make a change. What I am calling for and urging even, is a little more action or maybe even new ideas. I am fairly certain that most people know to switch their light bulbs by now. Almost everyone has been made aware of using harmful chemicals. We all know to cut back on the plastic bag usage.
Why not kick it up a notch? I know that I am not able to buy as much organic food as I would like. We just can’t afford to do so. I don’t expect that every person is going to be able to do everything that has ever been suggested to going green.
Instead of giving up completely because I can’t do something, like buy organic, I try focus on something else I can do. Like Reduce! Not only is this a green option, but frugal, too.
This is why my posting of ideas on being more green have started to trickle. I am slowing down on things to suggest that haven’t been suggested by every other blogger and morning tv show already.
My point in writing this post was not to point out faults or be negative, but to request that we all do our part to not just make this a fad. Let’s take all the talk and ideas and incorporate them into our daily life as a consistent function. Let’s make it real!
