Rendition

When listening to NPR this morning, I heard that the President is going to be giving a speech to the House and Senate calling them to pass a surveillance bill. Although it is about a slightly different law, it got me thinking about a movie I watched this past weekend.

rendition.jpgOne of the reasons I choose to watch the movie Rendition, was because I enjoy Reece Witherspoon. She definitely did not disappoint me in this movie. She gave a solid performance and was encouraging to see playing a strong woman, instead of just a silly heart sick one.

At times the movie was a bit confusing as it jumped around a bit and really packed in the amount of information being covered. This also lead to at times it being a bit stagnant. The suspense was wonderful, though, and my hubby and I were constantly trying to guess how everything all fit together.

The other thing that was kind of difficult to watch was the torture. There wasn’t anything too graphic about it or anything, but I think the idea in general is hard to imagine.

Meryl Streep’s character made my blood boil. The scary thing is that there are people in our government who are similar to this character. They have been given power and are not respectful to their constituents with that responsibility.

While I do believe desperate times call for desperate measures, I also believe in the idea that our country was founded on- the balance of power by checks and balances and a right to a fair trial.

This movie clearly illustrated what can and already may have happened when we abandon those ideas that this country was founded on. If nothing else, I was reminded of how important it is to have trust worthy, and humble people run our government. (Just something to think about when we are casting our votes here in the upcoming months.)

Overall, I am really happy I watched the movie. It got me thinking and I like movies that do that. I also recommend movies that do that, which is why I suggest this movie be added to your “to be watched” list. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Barking Sheep

malbec.jpgI am by no means a wine connoisseur. So, when my hubby suggested Barking Sheep’s Malbec vintage 2006, my first response was, “what kind of wine is Malbec?” Rookie, I know.

Since the wine did fit my criteria of being under $10.00 and having an interesting name, I decide to give it a go. I will try most everything once.

Although I may not be a wine guru, I am , however, good at deciding which kind of wine I like to drink. Barking Sheep will be gracing my wine glass again, sometime soon. Real soon, if I can pawn off the pink eye kid and get to the store. Like tonight.

My first impression and actually what I said was “WOW! that is tart!” Then I quickly added, “and smooth!” The second sip was enjoyed even more as I noticed the rich deep taste with just the perfect blend of fruit and earth.

I still don’t know the complete history of this Malbec wine, although I read it hails from Argentina in some high altitude place. Good enough for me. It also is suggested that this wine be paired with BBQ rib eye, roast lamb or spicy sauces. I am not so sure on that. I would suggest pairing it with a long, stressful day, a few friends either online or RL, and a nice chill evening at home.
