My Ty

Happy 5th birthday, my charming boy. I know that I always say this, but I really can’t believe that you are 5. Time with you really has flown right by. I guess that’s what they say happens when you are having fun, and that I am.

Although at some moments I can be a little sad and teary eyed about you growing up so fast, I also am really enjoying you the older you get. One of the things that I just love about you at this age is your sense of humor. You have my type of humor- witty & sarcastic. You get me and my jokes and I, you. There are moments when I am in complete disbelief, because you say something, which was the same thing I was thinking. You make Mommy proud.

Another thing I love about you is that you are so logical. If there is some kind of problem you will come up with several ideas and solutions. This also leads you to being good with your hands. You love to build and fix things. I know you will be quite handy when you are older.

The other thing that melts my heart and brings tears to my eyes on almost a daily basis, is your devotion and love for your little brother (who adores you, by the way.) You are so protective of him and do such sweet things like pat him on the head and say things like, “that’s my boy!” I truly hope you boys will continue to be such great friends as you grow up.

In the past you have wanted to be a fireman, a superhero, or a rockstar when you grow up. Not this year. This year has been all about you being a daddy. Oh,you want to be just like your daddy! You idolize him and tell me all the time how “he knows everything-even more than Mommy.” One day you actually sat at his desk for 4 and half hours without getting up, just waiting for him to get home from work.

The plan you have concocted goes like this:

“get a motorcycle when you are 18, become a daddy and get a job, still live with mommy& daddy forever.”

We will see how that goes for you, but I am sure you will make an excellent daddy someday. You are an attentive, hard worker, so I am sure you can do anything you want.

That’s another thing about you. You are one of those people who are good at anything you try. You have amazed people at your ability to focus and perform in TKD. You show no fear about getting up in front of 12 judges and a hundred people to test for your belt. I wish I was as brave and confident as you. We are so proud of you.

This past year you learned to ride your bike with no training wheels and read your first book by yourself. Science is your favorite subject, whether it be building a model skeleton or learning about solids, liquids and gases. It seems like you just can’t get enough.

You went from being completely girl crazy, to thinking girls have cooties this year. I will admit I like this stage a lot better. You are too young for any other girls besides Mommy. I don’t want this to be forever, but right now is Mommy’s time to be number one…

You continue to be cuddly and will drop whatever you are doing to spend some time with mommy or daddy. I hope this doesn’t go away anytime soon. Nothing makes me happier than you hear you say those words that are worth more to me than any riches of the world, “I love you, Mommy.”

Son, I love you, too. More than you than you could ever know.

Love,

Mommy

Happy Fwee, Toby!

My Littlest Toggers,

Today you turned “fwee” and I wanted to make the day as special as you are. I took all you kids bowling, or as you kept saying- “rolling”, for the first time. You went first because it was your special day and you proceeded to ignore me, as you are so famous for doing, and crossed over the lane line and slipped on the very unsafe waxed floor and conked your head. You cried for about 2 seconds, got mad at the stupid floor for doing that to you and then got up to roll another ball down the isle that finally reached the pins 2 and a half minutes later. Let’s just say it was a looooong game. I tell you this story because it is so typical of you. You don’t stay mad at anything for long and you are always ready to get back on your feet and try again. I so admire this about you.

Daddy and I call you our little Buddha and not because you have the perfect buddha belly that we love to poke and watch you giggle. You have an amazing sense of happiness that beams from you and catches everyone up in the wave making it impossible to not smile. You are such a happy go lucky little boy- the exact opposite, in this sense, of everyone else in this house. Most of the rest of us tend to be on the more serious side and give smiles out as one would their favorite candy. You just spread love and smiles everywhere and the world is a better place for that.

When I found out I was pregnant with you I thought, “Oh no! How am I going to handle another child?” Now I think everyday, “How could I live without out you?” You are so opposite from me in so many ways and I yearn and learn to be more like you. So carefree. So loving. You always are the first to tell me how much you love me. You know just when to give me a hug or kiss. You tell me I am the best cake maker or pretty when I am feeling down. It’s like you are wise beyond your years and an angel with access to my thoughts.

I do have to say that you are very spoiled. Your brother and sister make this a reality too. They dote on you all the time and make sure Mummy and Daddy aren’t too hard on you. You revel in this and make sure everyone remembers you are “too cute or too little” to do whatever arduous task is at hand. We usually give in, although, I know we shouldn’t. Even your teacher, who calls you “Angel,” tells me she has a difficult time disciplining you. She says you give her “the look,” (which by the way you got from your Daddy), and she starts rethinking her decision to put you in time out.

You got so much of your personality from Daddy its uncanny. You both love the computer and would rather sit and watch tv then travel the world with Ty and I. Consequently, you spend a lot of extra time with Daddy. Besides playing games on the computer or watching tv, you love to color and play with your trains. You are so independent, you can play for an hour sometimes all by yourself, although you would rather one of us play with you. Outside you love to dig and play with your trucks. Sometimes you like doing this in Mummy’s flower beds which doesn’t make her happy, though. You are such a clever boy, always surprising us with the stuff you know.

My hope for you, Son, is that you keep that love and sunshine in your heart and continue to spread it wherever you go. Keep getting up when the world pushes you down and know that you, my baby, will always have a special place in my heart.

Love,

Mumma
