To My Last on Your Fourth
Tuesday, April 8th, 2008
Happy 4th Birthday, Baby. I know, you are aren’t a baby anymore, but you will always be Mumma’s baby. Your daddy had a difficult time with your birthday this year. It’s hard to watch you grow up so fast! I reassured him and myself, though, that you will always be our Toby, regardless of how old you are.
At least I hope you don’t ever change your quirky, creative little ways. We love the way you do everything differently than the normal flow. We anticipate the ways you surprise us and actually take them into consideration now when we plan. Will this be ok for Toby? Maybe- he is ALWAYS surprising us!
You have a strong sense of self and don’t feel the need to compromise to what others want from you. Of course, this is not always helpful when your parents are trying to get you to do something, but I am happy you have such a strong personality.
The kids at your school absolutely adore you, along with your teachers. They all tell me when I pick you up how funny you are and I smile because I know you are! And feel so lucky to be your mommy who gets to be with you every day!
Your brother and sister dote on you all the time. You are like the little jewel of our family holding us all together. When times are stressed we can rely on you to lighten the mood with a laugh, cute saying or a snuggle.
This year you have grown so much and can practically program a computer. Seriously, it scares me how good you are on that thing. You somehow have downloaded programs, went into another music program and wrote a song. Yesterday you made a spreadsheet and graph. (I can barely do that! Stop showing me up) Sometimes you call me over to your computer to fix something and I can’t, then 5 minutes later you fix it. You take after your daddy, for sure.
You take after Mommy in small things like how you love green. The only color you will use is green. When I get your worksheets that are supposed to be in different colors to represent capital and lowercase letter, etc. They are not. They are all in shades of green, Mommy’s favorite color, too.
You have an unbelievable memory. You are just soaking up beginning reading skills and already have read a BOB book. You also remember things you hear on NPR. You constantly talk to me about Obama, Bush and other political figures. You asked to see pictures of these people and made your own prediction of who you think will be the next president.
You are an original, My Son. You have taught me so many things. Daddy and I say on at least a weekly basis how we wish we could be more like you- so loving, laid back, creative, funny and content. And profess on a daily basis how lucky we are to have you in our lives.
I love you to the moon and back,
Mumma
*Toby’s b-day was actually on Sunday
