Healin’ and Growin’

So it seems that Toby was back on the path to walking pneumonia again. We spent the morning in the doctor’s office and his temperature spiked to 102.5. He has been coughing so hard the last few nights he threw up, oh around 100 times. I think my washing machine is ready to take a vacation. I am filled with guilt over having used the dryer so much the last few days. I just couldn’t keep up with the laundry and hanging it out to dry. Priorities I guess… He is now on a slew of drugs ranging from nebulizer to OTC pain meds, antibiotics and steroid decongestants. Hopefully this will pass soon as this weekend is the poor little guys birthday party and I would hate for him to not enjoy it.

I also am hoping to get outside to do some more gardening soon. I am itching to get out and plant some new seeds I ordered the other day. I am a bit concerned because they are supposed to be planted in the early spring and its practically late spring around here with temps already up to 86 degrees. Every moment they sit on my table waiting to be planted stresses me out more. Pretty crazy, I think I need to chill about it, but for some reason I just keep agonizing over it. For me, gardening usually is fun and relaxing- playing in the dirt if you will. Then Type A personality comes over me and makes it stressful and worrisome.

I already have a few plants coming up. I will have to get out and take some pictures for you all. In my front yard, I have several different herbs doing quite well, really. I was a bit skeptical, since they came from this, but they have really surprised me! The boys really enjoyed planting these and are so excited to check them and see how much they have grown.

In our backyard, I have my chili pepper plant from last year already producing some spicy jalapeños. This plant actually even gave us a few this winter. Long live my jalapeño plant! Ty got some lima seeds at school for Tu B’Shevat and we started them in a plastic bag and a wet paper towel. They really took off and have been transplanted to our yard. There are three of them over 8 inches tall! Right next to those we have yellow squash making a second appearance and green beans gracing us with their arrival. The boys and I decided to experiment, and planted some popcorn seeds, and have about 4 long stems coming up. I am not sure what will happen to those, but the boys love watching them grow.

Coming soon to my back yard (hopefully) I will have some lettuce, kale, tomatoes, carrots, green onions and cucumbers. I also am planning on starting another orange tree up in the near future. We had to cut our other one down as it was diseased. Last year I just couldn’t get my tomatoes to grow, I am going to try a few thing different this year and see what I can do. I really know very little about gardening, but have this book (love it) and get help from here.

Unfortunately, the dirt or better stated, sand, is so dry and lacking in nutrients, I have to do a lot of container gardening. I am running out of containers and the some of the seeds I ordered came in ridiculous amounts that I would need three more backyards to properly plant them. So, if anyone out there needs/wants any blue curled kale (my favorite), little fingers carrots, or Boston cucumbers, just let me know. I got them from a heirloom grower who has very high feedback and success rates. If you are interested please email me at boogiemumatgmaildotcom. If I have a large response for the seeds, I will simply just take whoever came first, and go from there…

I didn’t really set out to write about my hobby, as suggested by CHBM’s, but I guess I ended up coming around to that anyway.  Check out their Carnival of the Week!

Gardening is one of those things I wish I had more time for.

Yes, please do post pics so that I can live vicariously through you! We live in a condo, so the only real planting we can do has to be in a pot… out in our patio… in July. :(

Here’s hoping Toby gets better very soon. Pneumonia is so very scary. Warm, happy, phlegm-free thoughts coming his way.

Lovely blog here! Came by way of Julie’s. I don’t understand how or why anyone would leave you nasty comments. :)

    Peace,

    Oh HERE YOU ARE!

I finally followed from your old spot after you commented on my post. I was like, “Hey there she is!” So I wasn’t getting “new” at your old blog becase it’s here. I’ll relink.

Next time I will pay attention to the change of address card I get. LOL :)

    Sorry about Toby…hope he’s better.

It might have no basis but since I’ve been feeding my kids that immune-boosting yogurt, they haven’t gotten as sick or sick as often. And they love yogurt.

GL with gardening! I envy friends who can do that. Plants come to me to die, sort of a “suicide by Julie.” or that’s what I say rather than admit to being a plant killer. I swear I follow the instructions but, they all die.

I love the idea of gardening, but lack the skills for the reality.

    Hope Toby’s better soon.
