Olympic Hopeful
Is anyone else as excited for the 2008 Olympics as I am? I know I have previously mentioned my first full fledged crush on the event before. Every time I think about the Olympics now I get a little teary eyed, but still a huge rush of excitement.
I always thought it would be me going to the Olympics someday. I dreamed it was me for years. Actually I still dream of the bar routine I wanted to perform. If only my body would work that way now, I would honestly go give it a whirl if I had a chance.
Now I am resigned to just being a spectator of gymnastics. I sit glued to my tv not breathing on the balance beam routines, tearing up when I gymnast makes a mistake. I literally cheer outloud for a powerful floor exercise. I love it as much as I always have.
This time I am broadening my preference for favorite Olympic sports. I am getting excited about a sport that is not as popular as the gymnastic competitions. Taekwondo. I want my kids to feel the excitement, the elation, the desire to be your best that I gained from watching my first Olympic gymnastic competition.
While I obviously can’t live through my children or make them want to be an Olympian like I did, I do hope they pick up some of the lessons learned through Olympic athletes- like working hard, never giving up, and thinking positive.
What about you? What is exciting to you about the Olympics?

I LOVE almost everything about the Olympics. I love the fact that the Olympic trials are starting up this week. I was a runner through college and that tends to be what I watch the most. But, I love gymnastics and soccer and pretty much everything (except maybe basketball). I am hoping that Chicago with get the Olympic, because I am right next door and I would so volunteer to to what ever they wanted me to do.

I love the summer Olympics! I’m always amazed at the gymnasts, and tend to watch them and the track & field events. I was a runner in high school, and seeing people run at lightning speeds–too cool.

The opening, the closing and everything in between. As far as individual sports, the gymnastics. Watching the athletes ability to work the bars and rings makes me so jealous. I wish I had been able to do that when I was younger.

I love the olympics too, I admit. I got to go the olympics when they were held in L.A. in the late 80’s. It was in 1988 I think. I don’t remember the exact year. We watched a soccer and a boxing match. It was very cool. I was only a kid, but it made me an Olympic fan for life!
