Kind of a big day

924-004b.jpgYesterday was a busy one around here at the boogie abode. Toby started his preschool class at the local recreation center. He was so excited to be finally going to school. I was so nervous after all the drama at Ty’s school and also because I really hadn’t toured the program he would be attending. I had talked with the teacher and she seemed sweet enough. I figured we would give it a try.

The free program is on Mondays and Wednesdays for only an hour and 45 minutes a day. Not too much, but a little something to engage Toby and give me a small break. He was beaming when I was spying on him he couldn’t of been enjoying himself more.

He really needed this class as it has been a very hard transition for him to go to school last year and then watch his brother and sister return to school while he didn’t. It has been a little trying for me to never get a break, too. Of course once I dropped him off, all I did was think about how many more minutes until I picked him up!

924-014b.jpgYesterday was also Ty’s belt ceremony. He amazes me with how dedicated he is to getting his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He literally talks about it everyday and I have no doubt in my mind that he can do it.

I couldn’t be happier, either. There are so many positive things he is learning and so many good influences he is being exposed to at his TKD school. I have seen a huge improvement with his focus and self disicipline. Instead of immediately giving up on things he can’t do right away, like he used to, he now is willing to practice and try again and again.

This belt was especially difficult for him, as his form was very long and challenging to memorize. But he did it, and I couldn’t be prouder. Not just because of him gaining the belt, but because of the lesson he learned and conquered!

What a big day for both your boys! Now, enjoy your one hour and 45 minutes of free time mom! You deserve it.

Oh wow!! The next belt…oh I’m so proud too! (Brief history, I grew up doing karate, my dad was my instructor, he did it for many years before it, I know all about my style and I love it).

Hope all is well with you. I’m going to send you over that template except I don’t have Word Press…will MS Word do?

I need to look into some form of Karate for Jonah. That’s my biggest problem with him — his inability to FOCUS. Well… unless it’s a video game. He focuses really well on those.

I’ve thought about starting my son in Tae Kwon Do…I took it for a while before breaking my arm. A black belt snapped my forearm in two, when he was sparring with me…helping me train. I was only an orange belt. Needless to say I won’t take him to the same place to start….but wonder what age is best to integrate them into a program. What age would you suggest is best?

Yay for Ty and yay for some time for yourself!

Way to go, Ty!! My M is very dedicated to TKD and working to get her black belt, too. There hasn’t been a single time that she didn’t want to go to class. And, yay for alone time for Mommy!! Enjoy it!!

[…] Tae Kwon Do has really been good for our family. Ever since we signed up we have not only been baptized in the river of structure and discipline, but we have had to take a drive no less than 3 times a week into an area that we most likely never would of gone. To say the least, it’s not the nicest part of the city and it has been very eye opening. […]
