It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…

The hurricane has passed and it brought the best weather. I was so excited this morning to wake up to a bleak, windy, cold morning. I went outside to retrieve something from my car and I almost did a cartwheel on the way back in…

It was 65 degrees here and I am lovin’it! We have so few days every year in this temperature range, that when it does happen I am jumping for joy. There were wet leaves on the sidewalk and wind gusting little piles of debris to the corners of the yard. The entire site brought so much happiness to me, but also poked a little bit harder at my heart. I love the fall in New England. I miss it every year and every year I yearn for it more and more. This year I not only crave the fall days for myself, but my boys. I wish they could grow up stuffing leaves down each others clothes. I would love to dress them up in cute coats, sweaters and hats. If it were not for the fact that they would run probably straight into it, I envision us sitting around a great big bomb fire and snuggling together. So before we break our the guitars and starting singing Kum Ba Yah, I should move along…Although the weather outside was frightful (to some- enough to cancel school and all government offices) I dressed the kids up in pants, boots and sweatshirts with hoods and took them on a little excursion around the neighborhood. They had so much fun jumping in puddles, discovering the downed trees and feeling the wind whip against their faces. I am not sure who enjoyed the walk more, them or myself. Of course, there were a few un-neighborly people driving out for the day glaring at me and my audacity to take my children out in these conditions. I just shot them a gleaming smile and went along our way. These are the times that I want to remember. These are the times I want my boys to think of when they reflect back on me…

What day would you like to remember forever?

we took the kids to PA last year in Sept, the leaves were already turning, so my grampa was burning them and everyone else was out there rakin and playin, the kids were so cute. Sometimes I wish we loved up north, but then i remmeber that up till a couple days ago i could go swimming (outside) if I wanted…and no sludgy snow. But the weather was great here to day, nice and cool with a breeze, and all sunshine! ooo man it was great! I have turned off the AC till when? April? hopefully!!

Glad to hear the Hurricane passed you by without incidence and that it brought some pleasure your way!

I actually did something similar with my daughter when Hurricane Ivan was passing through…we knew we were just experiencing the outer bands, so that day I took my daughter outside to sit in our open-sided but covered porch so she could experience what real “wind” felt like….it was a great experience for her (having ususally only been exposed to gentle caribbean breezes). To this day, whenever we see a report on hurricane activity on the news, she recalls that day…now she has her own scope of reference to put things into context!

That’s what boys are supposed to do…

I love fall….it’s so pretty and although it usually snows right after Halloween, I still love it.

I love warm weather when there is lots of lightning and thunder. I love to sit on my porch and watch and listen to it.

Oh the memories that are coming back now….

Ah, pooh on the wet blankets. Obviously, you had scoped things out and were sure it was safe. You showed them a bit what all the hub-bub was about and they are fine for it.

Never know when one of those spur of the moment things will be and enduring, dear memory. When Colleen was little, I would say about 5 or 6 we were driving home thru some fog. This prompted a discussion about fog basicly being a cloud close to the ground. Colleen asked what it would feel like, so we pulled into a school and ran thru the cloud. She still mentions that once in a while.

(fog feels cool and damp by the way)

Am enjoying the leaves for now… but only until I have to rake them or bug the kids to do it and them pay $1.75 per bag to be picked up!
