Toby’s Teacher
I really wish more men would become teachers. I think they are wonderful role models for little boys and bring a different atmosphere to the classroom then women.
I am not trying to be sexist or anything, but men, just like dads, usually have a different way they go about doing things with children. In this day and age where a lot of children are growing up with out a dad in their house, a male teacher can make such a huge difference in their lives.
Toby has a great male teacher this year that he absolutely adores. He talks about him all the time and is always counting down the days to see him again. Toby is constantly asking me to pack him an extra snack so he can share with Mr. J. He loves his other teacher, Miss A, too, but she doesn’t seem to hold as special of a place in his heart as Mr. J does.
According to Toby, Mr. J does all kinds of funny things and does cool stuff with them. The other day he brought in a really fast remote control car and took it out to play with the kids at recess. He zipped that thing around having the kids chase it and let them race the car. When I arrived to pick Toby up, he told the kids the battery was dead and needed to be recharged.
It was no surprise really, when that night while I was cooking dinner Toby came up to me with two hands full of batteries. As I scanned the living room I saw opened remotes lying all over the floor.
“I’m bringing these batteries to Mr. J for his car, Mumma.”

You bring up a good point. My son’s most inspiring teacher was a man. The teacher really understood my son and what he is capable of - and pushed him to the limit. My son rose to the occasion and did his best work in that class. A very positive experience overall!

Problem solved
I think there should be men teachers as well…it seems now a days though women are starting to dominate a lot of industries! What a cute pic too!

I loved this post. I agree - I think little boys (and girls, too!) need more male role models. Male teachers embody qualities that are often different than female teachers and do have a different way of connecting with the kids.
Your son is absolutely adorable, by the way!

Speaking from a school administrator’s perspective, unfortunately, it’s very difficult to find male teachers, especially for primary school.

What a great kid! Yes, boys and girls need both male and female teachers. I’m very motherly, but I work with a few male teachers who are both nurturing and tough. They’re very, very good for the students.
