Sweet Monotony…

Missed another day. This time it wasn’t intentional. My husband decided to get us FiOS and after the install yesterday I couldn’t get the internet to work. Lovely, huh? Then after my husband messed with a bit he got it to work, but by that time I was off to bed…I am feeling better about stuff now. Granted, things got worse with A yesterday and resulted in her busdriver yelling at me about the lies that A has been telling to the driver and me. I don’t even dare let her know about all the stuff A has been stealing on her bus for fear that she would kick A off and I would have to drive her. I guess I will be dealing more with the transportation department on Monday to hopefully get things resolved with that issue. As far as my health issue goes, I have done quite a bit of research and have decided that I may try a few drugs (prescription) but if those don’t work, I will just have to live with the pain and problem for the rest of my life as I am not about to have one of my organs removed. Hopefully after the test on Wednesday, we can begin on a drug regimen.

So far, number three hasn’t reared its ugly head yet, but I am not holding my breath. Things have to go on…

I have started on my Christmas baking today. Listened to a little Jack Johnson and sipped on some new wonderful Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls from Teavana. This stuff is pure heaven I tell you. I made 3 batches of John’s grandmother’s Cream Cheese Pound Cake. These freeze up very nicely, so I will store them in our deep freeze until the holidays are a little closer and I make up the baked goods baskets. I have done some shopping already and am trying to purchase a few things every week (one a day, really is my goal) and I hope to be on schedule with Flylady’s suggestion of having everything ready for December first. Unlike the results of FoX’s poll, I LOVE the holidays. I go all out for Christmas, transforming our house and playing the carols non-stop. I love watching the kids get excited as they open their gifts, but miss having the big family get together. It is very difficult for me to get in the spirit here in Florida, so I have to go a little overboard on somethings to make sure that doesn’t happen. I miss the cold weather and ice glistening on the trees. I miss wondering if there will be snow on Christmas. I miss going to cut down my own tree. Some year soon, we will have Christmas again in the Northern climate…

Well, enough about Christmas for now. I still need to finish hemming Toby’s Halloween costume. He is going to be a Dalmatian puppy and Ty is going to be a firefighter. A is going to be a butterfly. I have Ty and A’s complete and have just one more thing to sew on Toby’s. I will have to do that tonight so I can cross it off my list.

So that’s what been going on in the sweet monotony of my life today. Nothing horrible and plenty good…

Back to the question of the day…

What is your favorite holiday tradition, whether it be celebratory or in the spirit of Scrooge?

I love Christmas too…I just can never seem to get organized this far in advance! The couple of times I’ve bought pressies really early (like july or august), I’ve changed my mind and either ended up keeping the stuff or buying the person an “extra” present. Guess I’m doomed to doing it all in December…but honestly I don’t mind..it helps me to feel “christmas-y”. Hope the drugs work for you…living with pain does not sound like a pleasant option. My favourite tradition? I used to celebrate the “countdown to christmas” by giving my husband a “small” present every day from the 12th Dec until Christmas eve…I may have lost the marriage, but I’m keeping that tradition. I’m going to start it this year with my daughter now that she’s at an age where she’s really “into” christmas.

    favourite tradition??

Of course this is an easy answer…. I prefer to burn wicker men or perhaps dancing naked at the summer solstice??

Truth be known, every day is my celebration, and none shall take precedence over any other, so I still say bah humbug to christmas!!

Worryingly enough “think about baby jesus” is now winning my poll!!

Fox - that’s why I always go away on vacation during the summer solstice.

My preferred tradition is to delay the opening of gifts until after dinner. It gives a nice focal point for the day and somehow makes the gift giving and receiving seem more in keeping with the spirit of the day.

My favorite holiday tradition is loading up the CD jukebox with all of our Christmas CDs and playing them non stop, 24 hours a day from the week of Thanksgiving till the New Year. It is one that Shawn and I made up all on our own (not a tradition brought from either family) so it is uniqely special to us.
FlyLady is great. If I could only follow her more to the letter, she totally has her act together!

I love to go look at the Christmas lights almost every night.

I usually see the same houses 50 times before Christmas.

I just love it!! It’s so nice when you’re inside and it’s warm and there’s snow coming down outside (still don’t like driving in it.) But it is awesome to look at.
