The required 1st day of school post

Yesterday was Ty and A’s first day of school. A got off just smashingly and if she was worried at all, she didn’t show it one little bit. Her last year in elementary… She is now the “big man” on campus and seems to be relishing in it.

She can’t decide if her teacher is strict or easy and for her sake and for the sake of her going to middle school next year, I really hope she is strict. Otherwise, I think we may have lots of issues with responsibility next year.

She said she made a few new friends and was excited to go back today, so I will call it a day of success for her.

Ty woke up yesterday all excited to be a “Pre-K’er” but as the morning went on he got more and more nervous. He looked like he was about to cry at any moment and I feared he would be glued to my leg when I tried to leave, like last year’s ending 4 months of school. Not so. My big boy surprised me. I could see him fighting back his tears, but he held it together and waved me goodbye. I was so proud of him.

He had a great day, made friend with a boy “with a golden necklace” (he wants one now) and went back today with a big smile on his face. Of course, today he had to wear a necklace he got from a gumball machine at the beginning of the summer and told me that everyone was going home today to tell their moms about his cool necklace.

My kid went from thinking everyone hated him last year and he couldn’t do anything right, to in 2 days of this new school thinking everyone in his class is talking about his “coolness.” He cracks me up. I only hope he stays on his current path.

We anticipated Toby having an issue with the other 2 going to school and him staying home. We knew that he would not like being at home without his “best friend and brother.” So Sunday, Daddy and Ty made Toby a special surprise that he received when he stayed home with Daddy and I took Ty to school.

He loved his rocking star “ca-tar” and didn’t even shed one tear. His Daddy really brightened his day with the little surprise. (Amazing what a few recycled goods can do!)

Of course Toby did spend the next 3 hours asking when we could go pick up Ty so he could show him the “ca-tar” but that wasn’t as bad as what could of been.

The first day was a great success. I only had a few tears myself. It’s my hope that making the choice to send them to school will not be regretted. My wish is that yesterday’s success will only multiply from here.

Tomorrow I am off to interview a school for Ty for next year. It is a very coveted magnet school and I want to get our names on the waiting list early. Seems silly on the 3rd day of school of this year to start planning for next year, but that is what is needed to get the education I want for him, so I will gladly jump through any hoops.

Oh I think preschool or pre-k is so important. It teaches them how to socialize. As for you…your babies are getting so darn big!

[…] it got to be that way because last year his teacher and atmosphere was more detrimental than good.He was excited to start anew, hoping for some “big boy” school work and not just playing- which he finds boring. […]
