Give Me Five: Things I have been busy with in the last 2 weeks

giveme5mondaylogo.JPGToday’s Give Me Five’s is about things I have been busy with in the last 2 weeks. Wow, things have been absolutely crazy here!

1. Work- I have been picking up quite a bit of side work. It seems like I may have overdone my load I decided to take on! I am writing newsletters for a few companies, I am designing a website, writing website content, and helping organize events for another. Oh! I am also am back completing employee handbooks for my old company that I worked at before I got swept away with having my boys!

2. TaeKwonDo- last week Ty had a summer camp demo, this weekend the boys were in a large parade performing TaeKwonDo forms and throwing beads, this coming weekend is another demo. All these shows also require extra TaeKwonDo practices. We have been going non-stop!

3. Cleaning-I have been trying to do a bit of Spring cleaning through all of this. Not completely successfully, I may say, but some is better then none in my opinion. I defrosted and cleaned my deep freeze, reworked files, cleaned out drawers and so forth.

4. Trying to get the kids all settled for school next year. I am still waiting on one last school for Tyler. If He doesn’t get into this one, then I will begin the process of homeschooling v. regular neighborhood public schooling. I’ve really had to work on my patience and obsessing over this one. It is difficult for sure.

5. Family and friends. Through all of my busyness, I have tried to continue and improve my time with the people I love. I may have 5 hours of work left for that day, but I make sure I take the time to cuddle with my boys, play some Candyland or watch a movie with my hubby. I have kept all my weekly dates with my friends, even when it has been tempting to let them go so I can sneak in a few more hours of work.

Frugal Friday- Face Off

me-012b.jpgI have always been fairly obsessed with my face cleansing ritual. That is definitely one thing my mom instilled in me. My husband loves to make fun of my nightly routine and how long it takes me to get ready for bed.

I have been on a small quest to try and find workable recipes to make my own face cleaners. I want to take care of my skin. I’d like to do so in a way that’s affordable, green and safe as possible. So far I have found two recipes I like- an eye make remover and a toner.

Eye Makeup Remover

  • recycled travel size shampoo bottle (or anything similar)
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of castor oil
  • 2 tablespoons of vege oil

Mix and use cotton ball to gently dab on lashes.

Astringent

  • Use a recycled astringent bottle
  • half a bottle of purified water
  • half a bottle of witch hazel
  • 3 tablespoons of lemon juice (optional)

Mix ingredients together. If using the lemon juice, store astringent in the refrigerator. The lemon adds an extra cleansing ingredient and makes the toner more refreshing (great for summer weather).

The other thing I have come up with to reduce the amount of paper I am consuming is create my own form of cotton pads. While these do NOT work well with any type of oil, such as the eye makeup remover, they are wonderful and SOFT for the astringent.

I used leftover soft flannel material from the baby bag I made. I cut 4 squares and simply sewed around the edge to hold them together. I have been using them since February, they wash up great and are still in wonderful condition.

Just making these small changes in my routine has saved me a lot of money and I feel better about the amount of trash I am producing.

If anyone has any great cleansing recipes, please share!
