And that settles it.

As many of you know, I have been stressed about where Ty will be going to school next year, or if he even WAS going to go to school next year. I am happy to announce that he has been accepted into one of the 3 school to which we applied. I can not express to you the relief that I feel knowing things are all settled.

I think I may even of done a little jig when I got the news.

The school is a nationally recognized school and will be a great fit for Ty, I think. It follows the Bank Street School philosophy and is somewhat similar to a Monstessori approach.

There will be sacrifices made so he can attend this school, such as a long day and a bit of a drive. It also has a lot of fees and cost less than a private school, but more than a public one. We think it will be worth it though.

Last week also brought A’s middle school orientation. Just even writing the word middle school used to send shivers down my spine, but after the presentation and tour, I fell a lot better. Not only did what the administrators and teachers have to say reassure me, but the fact that once we sat down I had 15 other 5th grade girls come sit with us, many whom I have known since Kinder, made me realize it will all be ok.

One thing I really liked about the school is that they keep the 6th graders completely separate from the 7th and 8th graders. They have their own wing and stay within in that area, not even mixing in the lunch room.

country-school.gifOne thing that shocked me was when one of the administrators got up and announced that the kids will love this school because they have lots of junk food for them. “parents, send lots of money. We sell lots of junk food in the cafeteria that the kids love to buy. Icecream, gatorade, snack cakes, cookies…”

I think I may of had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Who promotes junk food to kids and parents? I was so disgusted and it appeared many of the other parents were also. Shouldn’t we be promoting healthy eating so these kids perform better in school. ugh. My blood boils just thinking about it.

Toby’s school for this year has ended and he is looking forward to starting the Montessori next year. He is however, slightly upset that his brother won’t be there with him. He may feel differently after spending so much time with him this summer.

Anyway, as the year is ending for my children, I look forward with anticipation and melancholy to a new school year full of changes for all of my 3 children.

Glad to hear that things seem to be working out just the way you want them to for next year (except the junk food - that is quite odd!) Yay! :)

The junk food might be a deal breaker for me. You must feel very strongly about the other good points that this school offers. Pack lots of lunches.

    Congrats!

I was informed yesterday that they want my daughter to go to a summer school program next month because she scored lower on the pre-screening for Kindergarten than they’d have liked.
She’s been going to pre-school for two years. *sigh*
She’s so shy that it hinders her.

Thanks for the EC ad today.
