I am all about helping you win stuff

You can definitely tell I am stressed. When I get too much on my plate I start becoming forgetful and you might of noticed I forgot to announce the winner for the compost thermometer on Friday. Whoops! Sorry…

Also, right now TeenyManolo is having a contest, it’s pretty simple- all you have got to do is link to them in a post. So, uhm. I guess I have entered :) Also, while you are over there, check out Glinda’s posts. She rocks!

martha.jpgLastly, the amazing ladies over at Home Ec 101 are having another contest. This time they want to hear about our horrible kitchen tales. Hmm… I have a few of those, I think this one sticks out in my mind the most:

I had just got together with my now hubby and wanted to bake him his favorite pecan pie for Thanksgiving. I was fairly new to the baking arena, but thought that with a recipe I could do anything! Yeah, I was wrong. On Thanksgiving eve, I started. The first pie bubbled all over the oven, leaving very little in the pie crust.

I had enough ingredients, so I thought I would give it another try. Nope! This time it burnt and completely stunk up the house. I ran out to to the store, determined to get it right and tried again Thanksgiving morning. The third time was a charm, but I still had a huge problem.

The entire house reeked of burnt pecan pie, and every time the oven was used it only got much, much worse. Smoke would billow and suddenly the house would turn into a giant fajita pan. There wasn’t time to clean the oven because there was a turkey to cook. I was going to have to let it go until after Thanksgiving.

To top it all off? This very Thanksgiving was going to be the first time I met hubby’s ex wife. She was coming to his house to have Thanksgiving with us. As if that wasn’t weird and uncomfortable enough, I also had to deal with the house smelling like an inferno had just ripped through here. I think it would be safe to say that this was one of the worst Thanksgivings EVER!

I also should mention that now, with the help of a newer oven and lots of experience, I am now a professional pecan pie baker!

I am thankful for…

my years of experience of cooking. While I would not call myself a master chef, by far, due to lots and lots of practice, I can reasonably turn out fairly good meals. It took a lot of mistakes, oven cleanings, and do-overs to get things right, but I can comfortably say that 99 % of the time, things turn out right the first round. Sadly, I put hubby through some pretty horrible meals, but he has recently mentioned that I have turned out to be quite a good cook. (Thanks, Hun!)

(I should also mention that I am thankful I don’t forsee having another Thanksgiving with hubby’s ex. That was just miserable!)

* Tomorrow I will post my promised handmade teacher gift. I know- I am completely messing with the schedule around here! :)

That’s quite the story. Glad that you have perfected the pecan pie recipe now. :) I had a pretty bad kitchen experience today, maybe I should enter that contest. Looking forward to the teacher gift idea…

Now, now. I, also, rock. Or at least I sway a little.

You are hereby officially entered in the contest. Don’t forget the mutual blogroll bonus offer, even if you can’t win $150 from Amazon.

  3. Lynsey Says:

Hey it could always be worse but I would have stressed about that Thanksgiving too! I would have given up and went to the store to buy a pie rather then bake one…way to go! Anyway, have a great day!
