…and some Toby Cheer
I know I have been blabbing an awful lot about my kids lately, but I am trying to keep things light and airy here on my blog. At least until the new year. Then I will start back with my woes of the world and asking you all to do stuff for me.
This morning did not turn out to be a very good morning. It started off with a long awaited appointment at the doctors being canceled. AGAIN. This time they decided to not even call me.
Now if you have been reading my blog for some time you will probably know that I have a few medical issues and have not had the best experiences with my doctors. It takes a lot of motivation to get me to the doctors these days and I am about a year and a half over due for a very dreaded test. I like to ignore things instead of deal with them, can you tell?
So when the office staff told me the appointment was canceled and “oh, they don’t have any appointments for the next decade and they now only schedule between the most inconvenient hours for anyone to watch my kids” I just lost it. I sobbed.
I later made a new appointment with a new doctor’s office, so I can gleefully go over all my 5 page histories again. I only really am half expecting to have the actual appointment. I am sure something, like snow in my city for the first time since 1977 ,will happen the morning of that appointment.
With the free time of not having to wait in the doctor’s office and read magazines from 1988, I decided to go purchase Toby’s new mattress set. But wait! They do not actually have the mattress set I am looking for, they only pretend to carry those. They can call the other store over another 20 minutes away and see if they have them. Yup, they do have one left!
I head over there, but oh no. They do not have the mattress set. They only have the actual mattress, no box spring. Of course I did get my wait time in while the one person working helped an elderly couple decide which recliner would be the most suitable for them. Ugh. No 1988 magazines, though.
By this time I am feeling Green Day Basket Case-ish. I go and pick up my sugar high son at his holiday party and last day of school. The teacher calls me over and starts telling me what a good boy Toby is and how he was the only child of 10 that listened today during cookie decorating time.
She also tells me about how they played games and as the kids won they got a turn to get their gifts from the teachers. She relayed to me how happy Toby was to get his gift and even as the other children ripped their’s open he wouldn’t open it. He just held it tight with a big smile on his face.
He couldn’t wait to show me his little wrapped package and told me of his plan. He was going to give this gift to his brother because he wanted to make Ty happy. His thoughtful, unprovoked kindness to his brother, not only brought happiness to Ty, but to me.
That and a few tears…

Sorry about the doctor and mattress woes, but what a sweet, sweet boy Toby is! Adorable.

That is one of the coolest “thoughtful sibling” stories I have ever heard. You’ve got a really special kid there. There’s nothing I admire more in a person than a big heart.

Amazing how a really crappy day could be made so much better by a sweet little boy. Incase I don’t talk to you by then, I hope you all have a great Christmas!
