The Countdown
This weekend is kind of a big deal. Not only will it end a week long celebration, but it’s my first born’s 5th birthday. I can’t even type that without crying. Actually, I have been crying since Christmas night when I wrote the date on my 2008 calendar.
Last weekend we had his birthday party for his friends. In his old age, my son has become well versed in telling me exactly what he wants. He was very specific about how this party was to take place. No cajoling on my part could change things.
First. We HAD to go bowling. No matter what other ideas I gave him, he was firm on the bowling.
Two. He only wanted his 2 best friends to be invited. I did convince him to let his brother and sister come, too, but that was a fight. He would not even hear of me inviting anyone else. No other friends, relatives, or the checkout cashier from Target. No one. I tell you, he is getting more like his daddy everyday.
Three. We must eat chocolate Transformer cake. This I didn’t even try to fight. He gets that from me. Nobody better come between me and my cake.
I obliged to all his whims and now am anticipating on completing the rest of his birthday demands which include him getting this bike from us for his gift.
His is a nice bright green. I had to go to 10 different stores to get one in stock and green was all they had. It is a pretty cool bike, though. His other bike has become too small and now that he can ride without training wheels, we figured he could handle this one.
Sunday, his actual birthday, we will go to the park for him to ride his new gift and shoot off a bottle rocket that someone gave my hubby for the boys. We plan on ending the day with a make-your-own-sundae-fest.
Monday is his Montessori birthday walk, which is well explained here. I can’t wait to get some pictures of that!
So while I have been a complete mess thinking about “where has the time gone” and “I can’t believe my baby is so old,” I feel this excessive celebrating is called for this year. My baby, who changed my life forever, will be half a decade old on Sunday.
Ridiculously sappy birthday letter to follow on Monday…

Awwww, Happy Birthday to your precious First Born!!!
And, btw, pics of newborns always make my uterus ache. I may have to “accidentally” get pregnant again. Thanks for that.

I know you’re sad that your baby is getting to be such a big boy, but I think it’s really sweet that he knows exactly how he wants to celebrate his birthday. I also think it’s cute that he’s taking after his dad.
Happy Blog Hopping.

What a great party. My daughter is just turning two and i can see that from your pictures that she would have had fun at a party like this one. Kids and bowling is a perfect combination.
