Oh Happy Day!
The last few days have been full of fun and pure bliss. For starters, our outside pool was having a lot of issues. They are seemingly impossible to conquer, as we have been dishing out $100 after $100s and still no solution. Filters needing to be replaced. Pool guy bringing the correct color and chemical balance again over a 2 week period. Finally ending in something leaking about half of the water out and being so hidden and mysterious even CSI wouldn’t be able to find the leak.
So we gave up. Kind of. Instead, we went with the indoor pool idea. Well actually, maybe it wasn’t as planned as that may sound. I guess it would be better stated as on Sunday night a pipe burst and flooded 3 rooms of the house, one that contains carpet flooring. Things could be worse. We turned off the main water and mopped up the floors.
The next day we woke up to no coffee, which was enough in it self to have the governor issue a state of emergency. No toilet flushing, which is cool and something I typically follow to the rhyme I learned at summer camp as a child. “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown…” You get the idea. Except we couldn’t follow the last part. Between the wet carpet and such, the house was not smelling too sweet.
Hubby called a good friend of ours over to help him and they went to work. They had to cut the back of our cabinets out to get to the wall. Then they cut that out to get to the pipes that lead along the outside concrete wall. Upon doing so they discovered two things.
- Whoever built the house thought it to be a good idea to inlay the pipes in the concrete slab. Let me reassure you. This was NOT a good idea.
- The pipe had been dripping for awhile, unknown to us. This caused some black mold to grow a few places. Like all over the entire back wall, which is not reachable without ripping out all our cabinets.
We now have our water back on and the pipe was replaced. Also a good portion of the wall behind a small part of the cabinets has been ripped out and a temporary placement put up. Things are working, but the looming idea of having to rip all the cabinets out and replace the wall and new cabinets hangs like a dark cloud that could burst at any moment.
I have been wanting to redo the kitchen since I moved in to this place. Never got around to it because of the cost. I guess now we have the fire underneath us to come up with that money whether we want to or not. With Hubby and Toby’s breathing issues as it is, I don’t want to take any chances with the scary black mold.
Oh. While all the de-construction of our wall was going on yesterday, I put up my post about the challenge I am having. You know the one. The Gas Challenge? You know. Right below this post? Yeah. Don’t ignore it. Just DO IT. Please?

Oh man, I am so sorry that had to happen. But the upside would be the new kitchen! Whee!

All that happens and you are still able to find time to blog?! That fact alone tells me that you will get through this just fine.
However, I do feel for you. The silver lining to this cloud is that you were able to find and take care of a mold problem that you did not know about. Left untreated, that could have had all kinds of crazy effects on your health.
