Why I heart the doctor’s office…

I hate taking my kids to the doctors, especially if it is because they are sick. I actually avoid it until they are either sick enough to go the the emergency room or my hubby kindly suggests that I take them before a neighbor calls CFS. Today was the latter and I had to take my little Toggers (Toby) to the doctors. He has had a horrible cold for over a month now and it hasn’t improved at all. I thought that there was nothing the doctor’s could do to help him as his nose has been running clear and there has been no temperature.

The thing I hate the most about the doctors is the germs. Even if you come in with nothing, it is guaranteed you will leave with something. The other thing I hate is the fact that they have toys. I know this may sound strange, but I refuse my kids to play with the toys. All I can think of is all the germs on them. Today I was lucky enough to have to bring both Ty and Toby and wait an hour in the sick room before being seen by the doctor. I brought them their own toys and books so we wouldn’t have to touch any at the office. Of course the stupid bead on a wire thing intrigued Toby and I relented and let him play with it. That was until another little boy came over to play and the mother casually mentioned that Toby shouldn’t touch his eyes because her son as severe pink eye. I couldn’t call Toby back to me quick enough. I slathered a vat full of hand sanitizer on him, Ty and myself and tried to convince them to sit down with me. Toby leashed out a full on tantrum and while I am trying to restrain him and calm him down he flailed his fist into my eye. I turn to Ty to instruct him to follow me outside, to calm Toby down, and I notice for some unknown reason he is leaning on the chair with him mouth touching the seat. Why do they not sell tongue sanitizer? I would be the first one to buy some, seriously.

As the hour passes by I try to be cordial while restraining my boys, who are uncannily friendly, while looking around at a room full of disgustingly sick germy people. Where have the days of doctor’s who come to your house gone? Even if they were still readily available, I doubt my oh-so-wonderful HMO would cover them. So, until them, I guess I will have to continue battling with the boogie brats and invest in Bath and Body Works stock for all the hand sanitizer I use.

Oh, and Toby is fine. He just has a major viral cold and they gave us some decongestant. Of course, that is until one of the germs that escaped the hand sanitizer sets and and he has pink eye…

Tis the season, this afternoon, I too, will adventure the waiting room. Our average wait time in there however, is 5 minutes, so I really DO love my doctor. Never, in the 6 years of visits, has the whole experience taken more than 45 minutes. To me, that’s priceless… and, she still gives the feeling that she isn’t rushed for time, takes her time, and is just the best person ever….

Ugh I totally feel the same way. It’s so easy to pass it just like the pink eye thing. I couldn’t imagine bringing one healthy kid and one sick kid. The sick kid usually just sits there but then the healthy child would so luckily catch those germs! ugh. Gross! Yuck!

    Hope you’re doing good….

Tongue sanitizer-that’s the best. My sister-in-law and I would baby sit the non- sick kids so at least we would minimize the germ exposure. I’m not usually a germ a phobe, but the doctor’s office makes me want to Windex people.

Don’t you just hate that?? Hauling them to the doctor’s office, putting up with people and their uncovered coughing and sneezing pink-eyed children, the icky toys, the tantrums… ONLY to find out the infection is viral and needs to run its course. That was me last week. And probably next week as well. *deep sigh*

    I feel for you.

I hate it for exactly the same reason. Hope everyone is doing better!
