Moving on Down-part b

As some of my long time readers may remember, we were looking for new houses about a year ago. We were looking for something BIGGER! BETTER! NEWER! We couldn’t find what we wanted, so we decided it just wasn’t meant to be and put it on hold. Wow, if things don’t happen for a reason! I couldn’t be happier that it didn’t work out because we are on a different path in life now and being in that kind of house would be a complete drag.

I am debating embarking on a mission to convince hubby to take a different kind of move. My dream still is to move someplace more mountainous, but I am laying off the cross country haul for a bit. I mean, I am giving the man a rest. You gotta do that every so often, you know? (Hunny, if you are reading this, just stop here. That’s it, click the “x” and move along.) I am slowly putting the bug in his ear on how it might be good if we move to a smaller place. It may sound crazy, and sometimes I even think it is crazy, but downsizing can be good. I still want a newer place, and my dream would be a “green home” but a smaller house might be nice too. I am content on staying right where we are, but know we won’t always live here, so I figure I better get my head straight on exactly what it is I do want or I am going to drive my hubby insane!

This is one of the main reasons I put the boys in a room together. A little trial period, if you may. I figured I would try it out here before we move someplace where it would be the requirement. I can tell you that minus the “going to sleep situation” all is well. The boys barely have even been in the playroom, so if we didn’t have one, I don’t think it would be the end of the world.

I know all my talk about Oprah will probably make it seem like I am a faithful follower, but really I am not. I tivo the shows and only watch maybe 2 a month. A recent show caught my eye and made me realize that maybe moving to smaller places will be a trend? Looks like some interesting stuff, of course so does running a marathon, which I never really plan on doing. Lucky for me, we are not moving too soon, so I have plenty of time to weigh the pros and cons of it all…

Not sure about the current size of your house, but mine is about 1800 sq. ft. total, and if we went any smaller, I think I would loose my mind!

I, myself, find myself daydreaming about living somewhere other than here. I wish I could live in the warm climate all year.

Hope your boys are settling down :)

I keep thinking about this one… actually all your posts do that. Seems I read them and can’t find the appropriate comment, think on it for a while, and might figure out what to say.

Again, I find we’re going in opposite directions. Right now we have 1400sqft. When the basement is finished we’ll have 2700 (which is plenty huge we’re realizing). Of course, we are a family of seven AND homeschooling make a HUGE difference in my mind here.
We’ve got so much in the way of books and materials (and will continue to grow here) AND the kids are here ALLL DAY- meaning the house gets messy ALL DAY and is crowded ALL DAY.

I really can’t wait for the extra space. At 1400 sqft this is the biggest place we’ve had yet, but sadly just not enough….

I have recently dreamed of down sizing as well. We won’t though because A) I hate moving B) the backyard is awesome and C) the house is perfect for entertaining pre-teen and teens-yes I do want them here because at least I know what they’re doing.

I think there is a minimalist movement beginning.

I don’t necessarily have a desire to downsize. I do, however, have a desire to de-clutter, get rid of stuff we don’t use, and free up some of the space that we have in our current house.

Hopefully your boys will settle down and get into a better sleep routine for you soon!

I’ve lived in big houses, and small houses, because the housing market is so different all over the country, what we can buy obviously varies a lot. I’ve found that medium is best. When we lived in a house that was 2500 sf, there was too much cleaning to do, and we didn’t use the space. When we lived in 1500 sf it was very frustrating (storage, getting in each other’s way, privacy, etc.) for our family of 5, medium works the best.
