Sitting,Waiting, Wishing…

I can’t say I will miss the feeling of the knot in my stomach in a few weeks. Regardless of what the outcome may be, at least I will know. Hopefully, this will be the last year, for awhile, for me to be thrown into the unknowing and blind navigation of securing a school for one of the kids.

Just like last year, I am facing the challenge of signing Ty up for a school. This year for Kindergarten. His school, thankfully, has worked out wonderful this year. I am really happy with the Montessori and have already signed Toby up for the Pre-K program there for next year.

country-school.gifThe Montessori, and actually the same class he already is in, has a Kindergarten program, but unfortunately it is a little out of our price range. The Pre-K program is paid for by the state, while the Kindergarten program is not.

A will be starting Middle School next year, which is an extremely frightening thought for us. She has always been a very late bloomer, and in this respect there is no difference. We are not so sure she is ready for this change, but like everything else, will grow in to it, I am sure.

Two children are secure and enrolled into their schools, one to go. I acknowledge things could be a lot more stressful with having all of them up in the air.

We have applied to 3 schools, 1 magnet and 2 charter and are waiting to hear back as to whether we have been accepted. I am really hoping that out of 3 applications, we get into at least one.

Our neighborhood school really is less than thrilling. While it has been rated an “A” school, my experience is that the test is misleading. I have heard that the principal, a chief source of my distaste, may be retiring which leads to a possibility of hope. Maybe some new blood will help the school be more than it is now.

If Ty doesn’t get into any of the 3 schools, this neighborhood school will be a last resort. I am not even sure I will enroll him there if there isn’t a new principal and some change. His current teacher has warned me that enrolling him at this school, in it’s current state could be detrimental to his shy and insecure demeanor.

Two of the schools told me I would hear from them at the beginning of this month and the other will be next month. Now I am just stuck doing something I am not very good at: Sitting, waiting and wishing…

I know what you mean…I was so happy that the twins preschool offered VPK. No searching for a year but I do not look forward to it.

Yeah, I am kind of going through something similar, wringing my hands over where Mr. P should go. Private school, even with the help of grandparents, is just too expensive. Luckily we have great public schools in this area but I’m not sure I want him going to the one nearest us because it is right next to a huge freeway. Oy!

I was terrified when each of my shy special needs kids hit Jr. High. To my surprise they both blossomed while their secure (and to my mind, much too worldly) cousins struggled. I hope your experience is just as positive.

I’m nervously anticipating my son’s kindergarten evaluation next month. They are beginning a special education program, which would allow him to get much needed therapy at school, and an aide if he really needs one. If they don’t get the program started in time, I don’t know if he’ll get in. I don’t have a back up plan either! Good luck to you! I hope you get your first choice!

I hear ya on this one. The main reason we moved a few mos ago was to get the kids in better schools. Smaller class sizes and less violence. Even tho it has been a pretty big transition, I feel like it was the best decision we could have made. The kids have made friends, the curriculum is good, the teachers are great….

Oh man, it’s so scary sending your kids to school! You want the right teachers, diversity, lesson plans, safety, social skills….it’s scary cause part of your childs fate lies in their hands. It will be fine either way though and just keep thinking positive and he’ll get in.

    Hope all is well.
