Paging Dr. Tyler…

When I picked Toby up from school yesterday and he had a raging fever.  He seemed fine in the morning and apparently around snack time his teachers noticed that he wasn’t acting like himself.  They never even told me anything until I approached them asking if they happened to notice my son was actually combusting from fever in front of them or that he didn’t even want to stand up or keep his eyes open.  “Oh yeah.  We did notice he wasn’t acting like himself. We were going to mention it to you but forgot.”

I brought him home and forced Tylenol down his throat and he took a long nap.  Once he woke up he was still not doing too swimmingly, but after another hour the little imp was running around.  Then, 4:30 crept up the boy crashed.  hard.  He couldn’t eat, drink or find any comfort.  More Tylenol struggles and he went to bed.  After the 5th or 6th time he woke up, I lost track and feel into such a deep sleep that hubby had to take over. Toby slept in for an extra hour and woke up laughing and giggling like he never felt better.

I took him on 2 errands I needed to run and by the time we got home he was melting in fever and from exhaustion.  He barely napped and continued to be lethargic.  I called the doctor and they were not concerned because his temp was only 102.5 and went down whenever I gave him Tylenol. Toby also didn’t show any other aspect of illness.  I was discussing what the doctor had to say to my hubby when Ty piped up.

“Toby’s not sick he just got bit by a skeleton.”

“I doubt that, Ty,”

“Well, he’s not sick, Mom, it’s just his teeth.”

That’s when the big “DUH!” hit me.   Sure enough, I opened Toby’s mouth and 3 molars are poking out ever so slightly.  I called my hubby and let him know our 3 year old just solved the mystery of what was wrong with his brother.

Now why didn’t I think of that?

Uh yes….the next Albert Einstein…wait no…the next Doogie Howser!

–Alternate Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours and give him warm baths…it’s the evaperation of the water that you poor on him that takes the fever away, not the temp of the water—
(Ok so Caleb’s had a lot of fevers–they get to 104 FAST! Scary)

Glad to hear he’s feeling better!

OUchie! Poor little guy. I need a Dr. Tyler in my house, too. I can never figure out what ails my youngest! Unfortunately, neither can anybody else.
