I watched
The Great Raid last night and have decided to give it a thumbs up. I am very partial to war movies, especially those that revolve around WWII, so my review may be a little one-sided to begin with… I have watched a lot of WWII movies and have not seen very much about our fight in the Philippines during this time. This movie educated me in areas that I previously was not aware. I have watched movies and documentaries that mostly focused on the Nazis or the Jews, but was surprised to see a movie about American POWS and how the Japanese treated them. Astonishing!I don’t know why I am so infatuated with WWII. I used to have dreams about living in England during this time or being a Jew that was in hiding. I may have just read too many books about these subjects as a child. Maybe I was one of these people in another life…
Spice was so kind to recommend a WWII movie, Come and See, and I purchased it from an eBay seller, since this movie is normally not for purchase in a regular market anymore. Unfortunately, the first half of the movie played well in my DVD player, the second disc was “effed” up so I had to request an exchange. The seller was amiable enough to not make a hassle, but it should be a few weeks before I will be able to give a full review as the disc is literally traveling from China.
Well, I am going to wrap things up here. Short and not very creative, but my brain is on overload at the moment with tons of “to-do” stress. I will hopefully have a little more to “give” tomorrow…

Having seen Black Hawk Down, I have to question the version of history written (or is that wrotten?) in films.
Some background reading after seeing a film never goes amiss!!
I think Dad’s Army is about as far as my involvement with WWII goes!!
I’ve been to the Anne Frank house and didn’t see you hiding there!!

Glad you enjoyed your movie! Can you please help me figure out how to manage a movie into my night? I miss them.
kids, remodeling, housework, cleaning, cooking, baking, laundry, AHHHH- there’s never enough time in the day to get EVERYTHING done. I’m a little bit stressed. Maybe I’ll try your wine of the week and just let it all go!

Hey there luv! Write those to-dos down, get them out of your head and on to paper. Feels SO GOOD to check them off!
I am also partial to WWII, My grandfather earned 2 purple hearts while serving there. Gets me to thinking… how will this current war be portrayed in the history books?
Talk to you later, {{{HUGS}}} -Jen

Got hooked on history myself in 11th grade. Have to agree with arcticfox, it’s always good to get some back ground info from an impartial source - in all your free time! Enjoy what you can when you can & take care.

Sorry to hear your DVD didn’t play - don’t know why it’s a two disc set - my copy is a region 1 disc from the USA and is a single disc. Just hope that when you get it that you think it’s a worthwhile watching experience. I’d hate to recommend one you don’t like.
Have you ever seen ‘Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence’, a great movie and a good acting performace from David Bowie.
Not really a war film in the action sense, more an examination of two cultures clashing over an ideology.
Awesome haunting theme tune into the bargain.
