Let’s not forget about them.

humanrightsbadge1.jpgI am not sure about you, but I feel at least partially responsible. I am super sensitive to this crisis and literally tear up and cry every time I see or hear something about these children.

While I am very familiar with the maddening and heart wrenching story of the children of Dafur, I feel that this crisis is a hot topic in the media and with our celebrities.

I seem to hear a whole lot less about the Iraqi war orphans. I have seen a few blurbs here and there, but not as much as some other situations. I am aware also that these children are not able to be adopted, so they could add to the seemingly disinterest of the media.

In a way I feel a responsibility to these children, after all, it was my country who went over there and bombed their cities. Yes, I understand life was not a Disneyland for them before either, but I am fairly certain that over 2 million (est. in 2007) Afghan orphans and even more Iraqi orphans would love to have their parents back.

Regardless of what side of the war fence one falls on, it is an undeniably tragedy that so many children have been affected but these conflicts. They live in deplorable conditions and there is very little hope for their future. In my heart, I feel like there isn’t enough being done for these children. I wish I could take care of them all.

What can we do?

unicef_logo.gifUnicef is working hard to help these little children. (Not only that but they are also currently working in Dafur, Myanmar, and China) You can make any size donation- every bit helps. I know times are tough for a lot of people now with food & gas prices rising, but all you have to do is skip a one coffee and in return get to know you did what you could to help restore life back to these blameless victims.

Yeah. What she said.

readymademagpic.jpgRemember the post where I ranted on about the ever so popular green movement? Well, “praise the lord and pass the ammunition,” I am not the only one who feels this way.

One of my most favorite magazines, ReadyMade, had an article from the editor that made me stand up and yell. I am thanking my lucky stars that someone out there understands where I am coming from and can obviously articulate it much better than myself.

What are you waiting for? Go, Read it! I will wait……

On a side note, ReadyMade now has a digital edition in effort to curb paper consumption. This mag definitely has the boogiemum seal of approval. Check it out!

I’m Sorry…

To my dear husband.

I am sorry for being so not happy on mother’s day. When I said that I didn’t want any gifts; I didn’t mean that. I meant I wanted a day at the spa. and a new car. and an award for being so wonderful and such a martyr.

Of course if you did any of those things I would be angry at you for spending money or not listening to me when I said I didn’t want anything. Either way. You can’t win. Sorry.

To the middle aged lady in the red convertible.

I am sorry. I am sorry that I didn’t run you right off the road when you decided to play chicken with me and flip me off and yell curse words at me when you passed by. I apologize for not being as wonderful as a driver as you in your “midlife crisis mobile.” Unfortunately, I had children in the car and for some hormone induced reason decided to drive the speed limit and try and preserve the lives that have been given to me to raise. I am sorry that you were driving on Dale Mabry Hwy and not the Audubon. Sorry.

To the bill lady at our doctors office.

I am sorry for the fact that you have such poor record keeping skills that for the second time this year you double charged us for a co-pay. Once again I was my slacker self and paid the bill the first time you sent the notice. Unfortunately to keep yourself busy, you sent me a second notice with a big red underlining swoop demanding I pay NOW!!! because you like to forget that I already paid you.

Then to ice the cake you are only available between the hours of never and not in this lifetime. So when I try and call you to discuss this and give you the bank statement that clearly shows I already paid, I get to leave a new message. Are you wallpapering with all my messages? Because I have a few extra rolls of paper here I would be happy to give you. But then you would probably lose those, too.

Anyway, I am sorry that whenever I think about you I imagine wrapping you up with sticky note messages and cancelled checks. and tying you to your chair with the phone glued to your ear. Sorry.
